How To Decorate A Bedroom Like An Interior Designer

How to design a bedroom like an interior designer

Your bedroom is more than just a place to rest—it reflects your personal style and is a place where you can relax and unwind. Whether you’re drawn to the laid-back vibes of boho decor, the sleek sophistication of modern design, the breezy tranquillity of coastal themes, or the rustic charm of Australian outback style, there’s a bedroom aesthetic to suit every taste.

Want to learn how to decorate a bedroom for comfort and style? Let’s explore the four stunning themes mentioned above, each beautifully styled in our display homes dotted across NSW.

Here's what Shaynna Blaze has to say...

"Your bedroom is where you rest your head every night and start the morning every day. So, it is important to be aware of the surroundings and how you want to feel in one of the most important rooms in the house."

How to style a bedroom by theme

Bedroom styling is about blending personality and practicality, and our brand ambassador, Shaynna Blaze, has demonstrated this perfectly. As one of Australia’s top interior designers, she knows a thing or two about styling a bedroom—and she’s created her jaw-dropping Signature Collection to ensure every homeowner can find inspiration for their new home build.

From relaxed boho bedroom ideas to sleek, modern bedroom designs, let’s see some of Shaynna’s styling ideas in action below!

Boho bedroom ideas

For those who love simple, bohemian vibes, all-natural materials, and a neutral colour scheme, Shaynna’s “Relaxed Bohemian” theme is a must. Visit the Carolina 1 311 display home in Thornton, the guest bedroom has relaxed, carefree vibes with a natural colour palette, rattan details (including the lamps and bedhead), and crisp linens. Whether you’re hosting a friend or family member from out of town, they’ll feel 100% at home cosied up here.

If you have a little one on the way, you can always turn one of your spare rooms into a beautiful boho nursery, as we did in the Airlie 2 245 display home at Cameron Grove. Utilising Shaynna’s “Luxe Resort” theme, we added flora-themed wallpaper, palm-tree printed pillows, rattan details, and a warm timber crib—exuding a calm, boho atmosphere for your little one and everlasting style for the home as a whole.

Modern bedroom designs

Want a modern, minimalist bedroom design to match a more contemporary home? It’s all about simplicity, crisp lines, and contrasting colours. Shaynna implemented her “Boutique Hotel” theme in our Bellevue 288 display home at Thornton, creating a sense of opulence with black and navy contrasted with fresh white.

Simple but effective, the modern colour scheme mirrors the designs found in luxury hotels across Sydney, London, and New York.

You’ll find more modern and minimalist bedroom ideas at the Cayman 287 display home in Box Hill. Inspired by the lofty look of industrial warehouses, the master bedroom mixes metals, woods, simple pendant lights, and plant life—no need for unnecessary colour pops and patterns. Plus, the space feels light and airy, with raked ceilings and large glass doors leading to the balcony.

Head to the Bellevue 321 in Leppington and discover a striking take on modern bedroom design. Here, Shaynna mixed two classic themes—Blue Lagoon and Hamptons—to create a chic guest experience. From ceramic lamps to reclaimed timber furniture, vertical and horizontal stripes, and fresh linen, this blend of themes is guaranteed to impress your guests.

Bonus tip from Shaynna Blaze!

"Getting out of bed barefooted, it is good to think of the type of flooring you want to wake up to.  A full Berber loop that feels like an instant massage, a loose pile carpet that feels luxurious to ease into the day or are you looking for that morning lift?  Choosing floorboards or tiles in your bedroom can seem cold to some, but if you are in the warmer areas it might be the right kind of ‘cool’ to stimulate you for the start of the day."

Coastal bedroom ideas

Whether you’re building a seaside holiday home or simply love a coastal theme, you’ll find inspiration in the Carolina 2 281s master bedroom in Miranda. Shaynna has brought her Contemporary Coastal theme to life, blending natural textures, breezy fabrics, vibrant plant life, and a palette of blue, white, and sandy hues to create a relaxing, beachy retreat.

If you’re looking for children’s bedroom ideas with a coastal twist, it’s as simple as opting for pastel hues, reclaimed, all-natural woods and linens, a fun nautical feature wall, and ocean-themed wall art. Alternatively, opt for a panelled feature wall in a colour that complements the furniture!

Country bedroom ideas

An Australian country-themed bedroom embraces the rustic charm and warmth of rural living, featuring natural materials like timber, earthy tones, and cosy textiles. For example, Shaynna has added a country twist to her “Luxe Resort” theme in the Ridgeview 321. With hand-crafted details, oaken furniture, soft linens and a breathtaking Steccawood feature wall, Shaynna has created a welcoming and grounded retreat for the heads of the house.

The country theme is also simple enough to achieve in kids’ rooms. In the Avalon 2 220 display home at Huntlee, we gave the nursery an Australian bush theme with koala wall art, a eucalypt-coloured feature wall, and complementary brown and white hues. Add lots of linen for extra warmth and a loving space for your little one.

In the Ridgeview 321, we kept the scavenged, all-natural materials for wall art and opted for fresh white walls, beige floors, muted fabrics, and a sturdy timber desk for your teen to finish their assignments.

Bonus tip from Shaynna Blaze!

"Opening the blinds or curtains first thing in the morning and flooding the room with natural light is not just signalling the start to the day but is good for your circadian rhythm to get into the right mode. On the opposite side of the scale is making sure you have good block out light at night to get the best deep sleep or REM.

Look at block curtains that go at least 30cm above the window frame or to the underside of the cornice, and at least 200mm either side of the window to get the best block out. Slimline blinds are the trend and sit neat and tidy in the reveal of the window — this is perfect for privacy, but unfortunately doesn’t give you your best block out."
