Shaynna Blaze’s Top 5 Interior Design Trends For 2021

5 upcoming interior design trends for 2021 - according to design expert Shaynna Blaze!

Australia’s premiere interior designer, Shaynna Blaze, is changing the way we look at interior design. Since partnering with Shaynna earlier this year, we’ve gotten some expert insights into the upcoming interior design trends for 2021 - colours, textures, shapes, and so much more.

“Moving into 2021, we’re looking for a brand new start and a way to reset the ’20’s with renewed vigour.”

- Shaynna Blaze

Like Shaynna, we’re excited to welcome the new year and the interior design trends it brings. So, in this article, we’ve shared some of Shaynna’s forecasted design trends for 2021 - plus a sneak peek into how we’ve incorporated these trends into the luxurious interior design of our display homes.

Read on!

Shaynna’s #1 design trend: Navy blue hues

It looks like the navy blue colour trend isn’t going anywhere in 2021.

“Dark navy has been used in small doses over the last couple of years, but soon we will be seeing a lot of blue from navy to classic blue and marine blue,” Shaynna says.

“There will still be a love of soft pastels and muted colours, but we will slowly move away from them and take a bold stance with solid and saturated colours leading the way for the next couple of years.”

Take our Riviera 1 267 home design, for example. Boasting a luxurious coastal charm, the Riviera 1 267 features navy blue accents throughout the display, matched with glowing white walls and furniture, gold finishes like taps, door handles, and chandeliers, and matte black accessories.

Visit the Riviera 1 267 in Redbank for more inspiration on how to style stunning navy hues.

Design trend #2. Unique textures

If the bold contrast of dark blue and white doesn’t speak to your inner interior designer, then perhaps Shaynna’s next trend will guide your interior design refresh for 2021.

“In 2021, we will still be in the wake of a turbulent couple of years and while strong, bold, and contrasting colours will continue to evolve, we will also see high patterned textures and raw neutrals coming in to soften the blow,” Shaynna says.

“Think high texture timber floors and natural stone. Rather than having one neutral paint colour, we will see layered colours like soft whites, raw timbers, and deep textural browns.”

You’ll find these mixed textures and materials when you step inside our Whitehaven 238 display home in Box Hill. Featuring dark, herringbone timber floors and white marble benchtops, the Whitehaven has a beachside Hamptons feel - perfect for entertaining, relaxing at home, and so much more.

Visit our Whitehaven 238 display home at HomeWorld in Box Hill to experience the charm of mixed textures.

Design trend #3. Industrial colours & finishes

Industrial colours and materials are expected to make waves in 2021. Think dark metals, textured timber and stone, matte black finishes, and a contemporary “grunge” feel to usher in the new year.

It’s dark, it’s moody, and it’s perfect for homeowners looking to take an alternative approach to their interior design.

“Industrial themes are taking a new sophisticated direction and meeting modern, contemporary designs in the middle,” Shaynna says.

“No more raw steel but solid, blackened steel. Exposed timbers will be dressed and we will concentrate on the quality of the material rather than leaving it in its natural state.”

“We’ll see black and walnut colours, high grained marble and stone, and hidden lighting rather than feature lighting to give the space a moody, dramatic presence.”

Visit our Cayman 287 display home at HomeWorld in Box Hill to get a feel for the industrial look.

Design trend #4. Curves

We can all agree 2020 has been a challenging year. In 2021, it’s time to take the edge off - literally! Rounded furniture, spherical pendant chandeliers, decorative pottery, and even abstract art featuring circles and curves are expected to appear in homes all over Australia in 2021.

“Curves are here to stay and our furniture is taking a leap from the seventies with rounded backs, curved arms, and even a curved shape to the base, cutting away from the hard edge of lounges that fills rooms,” Shaynna says.

“Polished gold lamps and tables, boucle fabrics, and a sense of Hollywood glamour will blend with off whites, saffron yellows, deep blush, and navy. It is truly a glamorous new direction!”

Design trend #5. Palm Springs

Some looks are made to last… like the Palm Springs interior design trend, featuring a beachside atmosphere and all-natural elements.

“We are taking all the fun and brightness of the Palm Springs era and adapting it to our modern living,” Shaynna says.

“Think bright white hues, leather sling back chairs with rattan elements, long haired Mongolian pouffes and chairs, and large pieces of pop art. Even with these elements combined, the space will still have a very airy feel to it with open plan living (and luxury) the main feature.”

Our brand new Byron 250 display home in Edgeworth features the luxurious Palm Springs vibe. With warm timber floors, palm tree art and photography, wicker dining room chairs and furniture, and soft, relaxing lighting, there’s a modern beach house atmosphere to the Byron 250.

Visit the display home in Edgeworth, Newcastle, for a closer look at Palm Spring styling.
